Mandala Bird House

You will have 5 different paint color palettes from which to choose. You will base paint your gourd and then create a beautiful mandala design around the birdhouse opening; using unusual objects that can be found around your home or local Dollar store. Be prepared to have fun while creating a beautiful, functional, home for your birds.
Students Bring: An apron and hair dryer.
Instructor Provides: Prepared gourd, paints, and any other supplies needed.

Snowman Luminary

Join me as we paint a beautiful snowman luminary for your holiday decorations. I will take you step by step through the painting process, with the emphasis on how I paint eyes. Gourds and hats will vary. I will have everything that we need; I just want you to have fun!
Students Bring: Apron or old shirt to protect clothes, and a hair dryer, if it’s convenient; I will have a couple that we can share.
Instructor Provides: Prepared gourd, paints, brushes, light cord with bulb, hat; and any other supplies that we might need.

Knotless Netting Rim

Students will learn the technique of using knotless netting to create a rim on a gourd bowl. When completed, knotless netting looks like a very complicated and difficult pattern, but it’s not! Once you get the hang of it, and you will in this class; you’ll find many different ways to use it. Let Joy teach you how fun and relaxing it can be.
Students Bring: Scissors for cutting waxed linen, a towel or apron as most students will work with this project in their lap. An awl if you have one, (instructor will have a couple to share.)
Instructor Provides: A clean prepared gourd bowl, cut, holes drilled for knotless netting, and the inside finished. Waxed linen in various colors, and a needle. All levels Max 10

Ghost or Snowman

Let’s have fun! We will use a small bottle gourd that is already attached to a wood base to save time. I will guide you in sculpting to resemble a ghost, or you could make it a snowman if you wish. We will then paint everything and bring him or her to life! This class is for one piece, and I will have several displayed for inspiration. I will lead you step by step and encourage you to make it your own.
Students Bring: An apron or old shirt to protect clothes.
Instructor Provides: Prepared gourd, paints, brushes, sculpting material, and anything else that we might need. I will have a paint bar with a variety of paint colors, maybe even a little glitter! All levels Max 10

Knotless Netting Ornament

Students will learn the technique of using knotless netting on a small gourd to create a beautiful gourd ornament. Although knotless netting looks complicated, it’s easy once you get the hang of it. I will take you step by step through the learning process. When I use the word “ornament” it no longer brings only Christmas to my mind. I have found that having small things that make me smile, hanging around the house can make even a bad day a little better!
Students Bring: Scissors for cutting waxed linen, and a towel or apron.

St. Nick with Teddy Bear

Doodled Butterfly Bowl

You will start by woodburning a butterfly image inside a border, on a gourd bowl. Neva will guide you in adding doodling; to enhance the image.
Students Bring: 1. Woodburner with a skew, and a small ball pen. 2. Woodcarver with a small ball bit, and a bit for removing the gourd skin. 3. Heat tool. 4. Apron 5. 3/8″ angle paint brush.
Instructor Provides: A cut and cleaned gourd bowl, pattern, instructions, and all other supplies needed.

Apple Basket

Students will learn to weave flat reed onto a prepared apple gourd. The apple gourd will be leather dyed and precut, so you can start having fun with the weaving. This technique can be used on many shaped gourds.
